At Simian we have selected a chosen charity to support for the next two years. The charity, Little Hearts Matter is a national charity offering help to anyone affected by the diagnosis of single ventricle heart condition. Little Hearts Matter supports children and their families at every stage from initial diagnosis, through treatments and support for life at home, for babies born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) and other single-ventricle heart conditions.
It is a charity which is close to our hearts at Simian, as one of our team has a son who has been supported by the amazing work that this charity does.
October was ‘Handmade hearts month’ for Little Hearts Matter – the idea behind the campaign is that each child’s heart is individual and no operation is the same. They describe the work that the amazing surgeons do as handmaking a working heart for each child. The idea behind the campaign was for people to make, bake or sew handmade hearts to sell to raise funds for the charity.
Last week we held a ‘bake week’ to coincide with the charity’s Handmade Hearts Matter campaign. Each day a different treat was baked from flapjacks to cakes and biscuits and these were all sold at our headquarters in Warrington. The week ended with a big chocolate cake being raffled off. The amazing chocolate cake was filled with a variety of chocolate treats and people had to guess the weight of the cake.
We raised a total of £100 for Little Hearts Matter from the bake week and we will be planning further fundraising events and activities over the next two years to raise more money for this great cause.
Anyone wishing to make a donation to the charity can do so here or you can Text HELP22 £5 to 70070 to donate £5.
