Hertfordshire Scaffolder suffers broken leg following fall from height

May 26th, 2018

An incident at a housing development in April resulted in one scaffolder breaking his leg following a fall from height. The accident occurred in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire at a development in which up to 490 properties are to be built.

scaffolder fall

The accident occurred in late  April and saw the scaffolder, who is understood to be in his 40s, fall to the third lift on the scaffolding at the site. An air ambulance attended the scene, with Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue also in attendance to help bring the scaffolder safely down from the scaffold. Images from the scene show the large emergency service presence at the scene, highlighting the severity of a fall from height.

Following medical assessment, a spokesperson from the developer announced that the scaffolder had fractured his lower leg and had some bruising to his back. The spokesperson went on to say that an investigation was underway by their Health and Safety team to discover the cause of the incident.

Although we do not yet know the cause of the incident, it highlights the continued need for training and a suitable method of work  to reduce the risk of future incidents.
